The manager wants to know when you can work, whether you'll show up reliably, and how you treat customers and teammates when the restaurant gets busy.
Interviewer asks for a real example when the answer is general.
Interviewer tests whether stated availability fits the weekend or late-shift needs.
Many US McDonald's restaurants are owned and run by independent franchisees, and hiring happens at each restaurant, so the steps depend on who owns the one you apply to. Candidates usually describe a short, friendly interview of about 15 to 20 minutes with a manager, and some get an offer at the end. Expect questions about when you can work, teamwork, busy shifts and unhappy customers. McDonald's UK says its interviews focus on values and attitude, not qualifications. Little is published about current US steps, so some restaurants may add a phone call, a group interview or a trial shift.
Worth redoing if you hear something from the recruiter that contradicts this.

Make a list of each day you can work, with start and end times. Mark weekends and late shifts. Write any limits, such as school hours. Practice saying the list in two sentences. Do not say only "I'm flexible".
Candidates report that managers ask about weekend and late-shift availability. Some US postings also state weekend or early-start needs. Clear days and hours show the manager you can fill a shift.

Choose three real events from school, home, sport or work: a team task, a busy time, and a time someone was upset. For each, write one line for the problem, one for your action, and one for the result. Keep each story under one minute.
One report describes questions about teamwork, busy shifts and stressed customers. The UK careers FAQ says interviews ask about a time you worked in a team and made a difference.

Say your answer once, in this order: listen, apologize, fix the problem, ask a manager if needed. Use a calm, polite tone. Keep it under 40 seconds. Then write one question about training to ask at the end.
Unhappy customers are a reported topic. A fixed order helps you stay clear and respectful under pressure. A training question shows you want the job. Do not blame the customer or a coworker.
Suggested approach
You have a written availability list and three story outlines. You have said the unhappy customer answer once in under 40 seconds. You have one training question ready.
Read "Preparing for an Interview" and "Common First Job Interview Questions". The page gives no detail on availability, so use your own schedule.
Practice your stories with a friend or family member. Then prepare a question for the interviewer.
Read the "Behavioral Interviews" section only. Skip the mock interview offer, which is for MIT users only.
Use the Situation, Task, Action, Result steps to shape each story, and cut unrelated detail.
Your first practice round takes 30 minutes.
